never just pull it out of the usb port. release it first (bottom right hand corner has the usb mass storage device icon), then remove it. if for some reason windows will not allow you to do it, shut down the computer then pull it out after the power goes off.

Use the safely remove hardware icon next to clock, if you format, do it to Fat32, all pc's will read it, some cannot read it if it's ntfs format... but all can if it's fat32, blow the dust gently out of the head of it by mouth. And keep it around 65' to 90 degrees. I use a app that came with mine to secure data, and or the write protect switch if included. Good Luck
