I don't remember Diamond ever talking about "cultures" diverging from one another at any specific time. Culture, after all, is a difficult thing to define let alone discern when it split up. It would probably be in the first part though, when it talks about humans migrating to different parts of the world about, what 500,000 years ago?

Even Chimpanzees have "cultures." They use different tools to get insects and fruits in different ways based on which clan they were raised in. Does that count?

I don't remember this either - unless your teacher was talking about the moment in the Fertile Crescent when hunter/gatherers became farmers.

You should be able to find that moment in your book quite easily after the discussion on the adoption of grain farming in the Fertile Crescent - sorry I don't have mine to hand.

Each different culture has always been unique, maybe when civilization began in Mesopotamia and Egypt. Cultures develop on their own, not diverge.

What class is this? hygiene, metal shop, sociology, or gunsmithing for fun and profit. Think about life today greed power, more or less education, Republican, Democrat or independents . " Back then" was really no different than today. There was & is power/greed people and there was & is weak/submissive people. Leaders and followers having many different types of ideas. In the good 'ol USA we had families going their separate ways after fighting each other. . ."Civil war" Think about it and get your homework done.

Is it in your history text? Did she ask you to go to the library and research it? You need to do that.

SIDEBAR: Bill Clinton's fans were swooning over him when he said he was reading Jared Diamond's "Guns, Germs, and Steel." They said "O, he's SOOOOO intellectual." We never got a report back if he ever finished it or not. I suspect Clinton was talking out of his butt, as usual.

Love, Jack.
