capture it and do what?
hummingbirds need a huge amount of energy to fly. they consume huge amounts of nectar to fuel their little bodies. If you captured one (while it is flying), you may damage it's wing as they are very fragile. Can't see how it would survive with a broken wing. Even if you didn't harm it, they move very fast - are you going to keep it in a cage? where would it be able to fly? maybe that's where the myth comes from? it seems to me that given the type of birds they are - it would be very impractical and cruel to cage it.

As long as you don't injure it in the process of
catching it, it will be all right. I caught one that had
flown into my car and it was quite healthy. They
do have to eat frequently so it's hard to keep them
alive unless you know how to take care of them
properly.

fiction. I actually caught one that was trapped in a spiders web! I set it free and off it went and I still have the three feathers it left behind.

No, it won't die if you catch it, but trying to keep it would definitely stress it out and kill it, just like most other grown, wild birds.

There's not much chance of catching one, so don't worry about it.
