I am planning on starting a small clothing business out of my home. My sister always wanted to be a designer and I was always very good at crafts. I make my own clothes. What steps do we take to start our business? Do we need to get a business licence, Do we have to fill out papers? Money is no problem. Anyone have any experiance with this?

Here are the procedures I followed for starting my candle business from home.

1. I called City Hall to see how much the licence would cost and get my business name registered.

2. I contact the IRS for a TIN number

3. I kept count of ALL the items I purchased to get started as you will need that later for tax purposes.

4. I created a web site (I'm a web designer foremost) and bought business cards and flyer. Email me and I will send you a link to get them for free.

5. Now if you decide you want to sell things other than what you can make take a look at dropshippers. The offer the luxury of shipping the items for you with your labels and you don't have to massively stock items. You are just the middle man.

I hope you get your business up and running. I wish more people would stick to their dreams so the little people can't start making so money of their own.

Best wishes

You may need to get a business license as you will have a sister as your partner and by incorporating yourself you will protect your assets. I would use one of the incorporation services because its just plain easier and is pretty affordable. They also have tons of resources on their sites to figure out how you want to incorporate.
