Technically, a baby can fly at any age, but you need to call the airline to see if they have their own guidelines regarding what age the infant needs to be for them to allow the baby on the plane. Most importantly, the baby's ears cannot equalize themselves during a flight, so take off and landings will be very painful for the baby unless they are sucking on something; pacifier, bottle, breast, etc. Make sure you do this, or you will have a very fussy baby on your hands. Personally, I would not take a baby on a flight until they were 2-3 months old, only because I think the longer the baby has to build up its immune system the better. There are all kinds of germs that get distributed, and redistributed through the recycled air on airplanes.

You should really wait until after your baby has had her first set of immunizations. Remember that while you're in the plane, the air is recycled. So every cough, fart, air-born bacteria, etc. will be near your baby. My short answer is 2-3 months.

it's usually safer at 8-10 weeks (after your baby has had their first round of immunizations). newborns pick up germs easily and there are a limited number of medications that can be given to infants.. so it's safer to just wait until they've had their shots... if you must travel before the 8-10 weeks (and it's not too far away) drive... if you really have to fly, check with your pediatrician...

At least six weeks, I think, since doctors usually recommend you take it easy until then, plus if anything happens you need to see a doctor right away. Doctors usually give the okay to resume normal activity by 6 weeks after delivery. When in doubt, ask your doctor.

I took my triplets on their first plane ride from Boston to San Diego when they were five months, just be careful about the ears when taking off and landing.
