Lack of interest from the candidates themselves, 18-24 do not relate with anyone running for office. They do not speak the same language.

They're all over in Iraq fighting in this "war".
Seriously, I think it is because they are under the mindset that their vote won't make a difference. The politicians don't speak to them - they are only interested in what their parents want. Politicians are for the ones with the money and power, and the 18 to 24 year olds are just starting out on their own; they really don't have either.
MTV had the idea of "Rock the Vote" - just getting the younger voters involved in politics, and allowing them to see and understand the political process is very important. They got to see that their vote does do something, even though it is only one vote. There should be more of that sort of thing, and the politicians should take the time to "woo" that demographic and speak to their issues. The person that does that will win the election. Clinton did it for both of his terms.

The largest reason that 18-24 year olds don't get involved in voting is they belief today that government doesn't impact them. The world generally has gotten so small for people of this age group they forget how fragile it is to those with the political power. They tend to believe in newer or different ideologies than that of "old politics".
The best example of this age group taking action is what many call "net politics" or "net roots" - bloggers, forum posters, web enthusiests and developers taking action on the new frontier. This segment has often been ignored by the old media and pollsters so perhaps as this "industy" gets more accepted the skew of the 18-24 year olds not voting or participating in politics may change.
Apathy to a degree, ignorance to an even larger degree but a shift from neighborhood/community involvement "neighboor to neighboor" politics to an e-politic environment is what i believe is truely happening for this age group.
Last but not least many people of this age group treat politics like a sport. They can get involved or they can be a cheerleader and as long as the team they believe in appears to be winning they won't have to do much. Sad but true.

Worst balloting record in words of low turnout? the major causes are basically: a million. they have had the least time to sign in to vote after growing legally able to. 2. they have a lot less strong residing circumstances with which to sign in. those comprise lack of everlasting address, shifting between states, a lot less strong job circumstances. 3. They lead a lot less to blame existence. commonly, individuals of that age team have not reached comprehensive psychological adulthood or have a lot less existence journey to inform them the price of balloting. 4. They pay a lot less taxes because they often make a lot less funds. therefore they sense a lot less inspired through the authorities and accordingly have a lot less motivation to vote.
