You could have a 100 Mbp Modem, it may only give you 75 Mbps. It varies according to a number of factors, example: distance to modem server, bandwith traffic, stability of modem. Try this site, it is a good one to troubleshoot and download tweaks for modems of your kind. Good Luck

Just because you have a 10 Meg cable modem doesn't mean your cable company guarantees or even offers service that fast. If you a look at the advertising, you will probably see an appropriate disclaimer.

The Internet is not unlike a freeway systems. If traffic is heavy, it can slow down. 7.5 MBPS is actually pretty good, so I wouldn't worry about it.

the bandwidth your cable modem is marketed as is the maxium amount of bandwidth you could get. It is usually less, especially when lots of other people near you are also using their cable modems.

I agree with jarhead....go to broadband reports.com and run the tweak test. follow the instructions it will give you. Your tcp/ip is by default set for dial up. you need to reset it for your broadband connection. my cable internet provider gives 15megs as a maximum, I am getting between 13 and 14 megs

When traffic gets heavy, speed decreases, 10 is the max, not average.

Your speed may fluctuate during times of heavy use and low use, and it depends on whether you have other computers connected also.
