It's smelly, for real... I've been there...

I lived there for about 1.5 years, 1998-2000. It's a nice city. It's come a long way since the 60s, apparently it was a scary place back then. The city itself isn't too big, and there are plenty of things to do, from museums to shopping to sitting on the beach. The bars close early, as I recall (I don't drink, so I woundn't know first hand). I left because I can't stand Florida, but that's a different story.

The place stinks to high heaven. I dread going there. Lots of rednecks, too.

The Jacksonville to St. Augustine drive shouldn't have been that unsafe. The JAX airport is in the boondocks just west of 95 and north of town. Duval Rd. to 95 south is the best way out of there, and as long as you stay on 95, it's not an unsafe drive.

Okay, I flew into Jacksonville on the way to St. Augustine, and the rental car co. asked me if I want the satellite thing that tells you exactly where you're going. (GPS?) I hesitated for a moment, and the guy says to me on the sly "Yeah, if you don't know your way out of Jacksonville, you're going to want it. You don't want to find yourself lost in Jacksonville. Especially with kids in the car." I take that to mean it's not very safe.

Why, what happened to it? Is it missing?
