Remember Howie Long's quote when he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame?
"Baseball may be America's pastime but Football is America's passion."

First off, I love baseball. I'm a third generation Cincinnati Reds fan. Go Reds! But on to your question. Baseball isn't doing anything wrong, but I think the pace is too slow for today's action movie/video game population. They'd rather see the constant motion and semi-violence you get from football. The games are exciting, everybody is yelling constantly. There's hardly a minute to stop and think (barring the timeouts on field for commercials at home!). Personally though, I really enjoy going to a game with my family and taking my dad along too. It gives us all a chance to relax and catch up on life, gaze out across the Ohio River at the barges that sweep past the stadium and just enjoy being together.

Why do you think baseball is doing anything wrong? Attendance is at record levels, tv ratings are up and interest has never been higher. Just about every team in the National League is still alive for the wild card. Ticket prices, concession prices, game starting times are a problem in all sports, not just baseball.
Football has 16 games played once a week--so each game becomes an event. Baseball is a marathon--and I will grant that a mid summer series against the Royals may not be must-see television.
Drugs/steroids are also a problem in football--football players know in advance when the tests will be given, they are not random.
Because baseball has such a long season and games are played just about every day, it comes under a microscope more than other sports.
Baseball has a revenue sharing program--but nobody says what the owners have to do with their share, some just pocket it instead of spending on their team. The Yankees may have the highest payroll, but the Red Sox are second and may not make the playoffs

Baseball is not selling itself to kids. The players aren't marketing the sport to a new generation of fans. Think about it. Little Leagues can't even use MLB baseball team names and professional players a lot of times won't sign autographs and take pictures let alone visit a local ball field.
The tickets are expensive and the games are on too late as well.

Some say baseball games take too much time for this frenetic 21st century society., that the game should be shortenerd to 7 innings.
I say malarkey. Baseball is perfect the way it is

they need revenue sharing so each team has an equal shot at getting good or great players. then it is more of a management game not a rich team spending 200 million each season doing their best to buy a championship

I completely disagree. Yes, football is hyped to hell by the media. However, baseball has maintained dignity and respects where it came from.
Howie is wrong. Baseball is right. It doesn't require the boost that football does by advertisers and ESPN talking head idiots to be what it is.

Too many games make each game almost meaningless. Also, having no salary cap makes 25 of the teams longshot underdogs. I still like watching though.
