Congratulations - you have a great attitude about this.........I am going to do the same at 50! You've inspired me.

Here in the USA - releasing butterflies at weddings is becoming very popular...........why not for a 40th birthday......

Buy several disposable cameras - have the guests take pictures as the party continues. You develop them and look at your memories forever!

One game that would be enjoyable is to divide up into teams. Give the team leader and orange or a banana. The leader puts the fruit under his chin and have it rest on his/her chest - they must pass it down to the next player, and so on and so on. NO ONE can use their hands to help pass - it is all neck to neck. The first team to pass their fruit - wins!

Happy early Birthday! Make sure you put in a UB40 cd. one of the best parties that I went to was the reception at my friends wedding. her aunt was the coordinator and she based everything on my friends fun personality. It was in a rural area- they had a lot of different mirrors borrowed for the occasion- stacked stategically with candles here and there. it was really pretty-there was also a board- about 7' tall with two people painted on it- a bride and groom- with the face cut out so people could stick there heads in there and have their picture taken as a fun souvenier. you can pretty much do any theme and use just a big piece of cardboard. anyways, hope you have tons of fun!!

Sink or Float, throw things in the pool and everyone is supposed to guess on a sheet of paper (at the start of the party) whether the item will sink or float. Display the items with the rule that they cannot touch them. We used a floater golf ball (painted over the 'floater' writing) so we fooled everyone. Prizes for winners.

When everyone enters give them all a small bottle of baby oil and don't tell them what it is for. Plan to server drinks. Lots and lots of alcoholic drinks. When everyone gets good and loose, break out the baby oil and play a couple of games of Happy 40th Naked Twister.

Guaranteed to have everyone talking about your party for quite sometime.

i only remember two parties that were really cool. a wedding party for a relative where they hired a magician to do some tricks. and my cousin's baptism' party which was ausome. the camera kept rolling behind him all the time and he was playing with so many kids.
what i really think is... as long as the person who's party was happy.. it will turn out to be greater than usual.
