This one is simple. The Americans are thick and the French know it but the Americans don't. The French cannot stand thick people. The Americans think the French should kiss their a*** like most other countries but the French don't think the Americans have got anything that's better than French ones. Clear?

That confirms how thick the American ( illegitimate) race is!
It is not a question of the French hating the Americans, it is the fact that the French value their culture and will not tolerate American interference with their autonomy.
What a disgrace that our government is a puppet of that satanic state. Before you reply to disagree, just consider how the UK has become a carbon copy of America in thought, word and deed and if you still disagree then peruse many of the Yahoo Answers and note the obscenities and inane comments. (e.g. it sucks, as just one example.) The French have no case to answer!

France and the USA are two amongst very few 'revolutionary' powers in the world. That is to say, their world-view is (in part) shaped by the ideals and the heritage of their revolutions. These liberal revolutions at the end of the 18th century established the foundations for their respective Republics. The ideals incarnated in the revolutions contain much of what we call 'modernity' and the heritage of the 'Enlightenment'. So, both in effect claim 'modernity' (the US) or 'civilisation' (France) as their own creation, or at the least, claim that they are its standard-bearers.

As a result, both countries have a messianic urge to convert the world to their message. Hence the French's "mission civilisatrice" (civilising mission) in its imperialist policy in Africa and Asia; and America's own attempts at "democratising" the Middle East, etc. This inevitably leads to a clash, both claiming the throne of Modernity for themselves, but both putting forward slightly differentiated versions of it.

Of course, there's many other reasons for mutual antagonism, but that should at least cover the ideological side of things. For a brilliant elaboration on this, see "America: right or wrong; an anatomy of American nationalism" by Anatol Lieven; he traces the American messianic attitude (the 'American Creed') from the first settlers to today. Some parallels are to be found between the Jeffersonian and Jacobin traditions.

Hope this helped.

Sure! The Americans hate the French because they are successful at avoiding American pressure. The Americans also feel inferior given French success with food, transport, health care, the arts.
The French dislike the Americans because they rightly value what they have and don't see why American interest should challenge it.

I know it currently has something to do with some comment the french people made about the american people when the wacko president bush started the war. Dont remember what the comment is but i do know my mother wont buy anything made in france because of it. Quite silly if you ask me but nobody does sarcasm better than the french and nobody holds a grudge quite as long as an american

The whole world hate Americans, not only us, French people, but only as a nation.Taken individually, some Americans are very nice and others are definitely unlikable, like anybody else all over the world.
The reason we oppose America is because Americans tend to think they are the saviours of the world, they want to dictate everything to everyone without taking into account cultural etc differences, often creating more problems than solving them.Americans are like elephants in a china shop.
And why French in particular?Just because France is one of the biggest European countries and is one of the leading voices, but as I said, nobody like America as a nation.

Because the French vetoed the US invading Iraq in the UN, not that it stopped them.

A lot of people in the US refused to drink French wines and changed the name from French Fries to Freedom Fries after that.

The factis the French had their own political reasons to stop the US, for a start they had a lot of business interests in Iraq before the war and they have now been taken over by US companies.

Also the French are arrogant pricks and hate everyone.

Is it just Americans that don't like the French? They are the sticking point in lots of international problems, and until Chirac is deposed, there is no chance of any respect for France.

One of the most recent problems between the two nations, has been over the 2 wars in Iraq. The French not participating in the international force to sort the problems, have lost them respect around the world.
