Don't know the name, but there is a new product that goes over the formica --sprayed on and it looks good. One of my employees had her whole house done-kitchen and bath vanities. She has had it for a year and loves it. She is picky so it must be good. I have seen it at home shows and like it as well.. I googled the name just the other day but am totally blank. Her total cost installed was only $900 including labor and materials.

I, personally, do not recommend this -- the laminate countertops I have from the time the house was built are AWFUL. I am saving up for replacements that will NOT be laminate, because I tried the laminate resurfacing on a small section, and it was horrid.

Why not just install new laminate or tile? Remove the old stuff first, then clean it and sand it well, so the new will bond. There is a method whereby they spray an epoxy coating on-it works on nearly everything and lasts for ten years or so they say.I've not heard of the cement thing you mentioned.

If you are gonna tile over the cabinets I suggest you remove the laminate to decrease any possibilities of early release of the tile. New laminate should bond well if you rough old laminate as the glue is designed to bond laminate to just about any surface. Read manufacturer's labels.

I have had a professional company do countertop refinishing over laminate, it looked good for about a month,, then it started cracking then peeling. I was not amused! That cost me about 2oo bucks!

Invest in new countertops--you'll be much happier with the result.

You can save money by doing the installation yourself (not hard--they're usually simply anchored by screws on the underside). The only tricky part is the plumbing of your kitchen sink, assuming these are in the kitchen.

Good luck with it!

Along with stone, mud and animal parts, wood was one of the first materials worked by early humans. Microwear analysis of the Mousterian stone tools used by the Neanderthals show that many were used to work wood. The development of civilization was closely tied to the development of increasingly greater degrees of skill in working these materials.

Not a good idea. The old top is on particle board. Usually, years of exposure to moisture takes a toll. Best bet is to do new tops
