Unless you don't want to ever play any games on the computer, avoid getting a Mac. If you're a graphic artist though, a Mac wouldn't be a half-bad choice. Ultimately though, it's your choice.

Only one other answer mentioned this wonderful fact. You can run Windows XP on a Mac, without any problems whatsoever. Well, only Windows problems. Ha! You will fall in love with a Mac. You can't do that with a PC. And price? Apple just defeated that old myth about being more expensive than Dell. The new Mac Pro is $1,000 cheaper than a similar configuration from Dell. Any way you look at a Mac, it's better. It's a beautiful piece of hardware. It's quiet as a mouse. You'll never be annoyed by the sound of a fan again. It's fast as crap. Core Duos are faster than most chips on the market. You'll have the most secure operating system in the world and you'll enjoy features that PC fans won't see in Vista until at least next year, and by then Apple will have released it's next version of OS X, Leopard. (And Leopard looks amazing!) There's just a good feeling in owning a Macintosh. It's about pride. You know you didn't buy a piece of ****. And you will be able to do most things on Mac OS X. The only thing you can't do is play PC games, but that's why there's BootCamp for running Windows XP. :-) Can't beat a Mac. You can't. Also, it's true "plug & play". Ninety-nine times out of a hundred, you plug something in and it just works. No configuration or drivers required. Plug it in, that's it. Damn, I hate Windows. And I have the right, I used it for ten years before I saw the light and switched to Mac.

3 paragraphs and Manitou is incorrect in all of them. first of all there are no released MacOs X viruses, there are not, Manitou is incorrect. I did tech help for 10 years, on no account had a Mac working MacOs X with a deadly disease. Macs are no longer overpriced or perplexing to repair. self sustaining study have shown that once you equip a pc with comparable hardware and application, the Macs are in keeping with risk 10 to fifteen % extra in fee. yet you get a extra stable equipment, suitable rated tech help and no viruses. As to extra useful bang for the dollar, Macs final longer and have a extra physically powerful resale fee. 3 or 4 years previous Mac iBooks choose for $4 hundred. the only ingredient you're able to do with a three or 4 3 hundred and sixty 5 days previous Dell is trash it or provide it away. Dell is interior the potential of laying off 8,000 workers and shutting down a North American telephone call the help center. Dell wasn't regularly happening for tech help until now, how will this mess them up. Get an iMac. It has a small laptop footprint, will final you 5 years and seems sturdy. As a part notice stunning now sixty seven% of the laptop computers costing over $1000 being bought interior the rustic are Macs.

It really depends on what you want to use the computer for and how much maintenance you want to do.
The Mac is better hardware in a cost comparison, but the Dell has lower cost computers since Macs have a higher minimum quality level.
If you want a really cheap computer and only plan to do email, web browsing, and other simple things, go with the Dell. If you can afford to spend more and want a more reliable and more powerful hardware platform go with the Mac.
Bottom line is that Macs are cheaper and more reliable than comparable Dell computers, but Dell has much cheaper configurations available than Apple.

Go to an apple store and try out the macs there. It's all a matter of opinion I guess but I love Macs. Only if money isn't really an issue. For the best bargins, go with Dell.

MAC! you get what you pay for. Dell is a decent little machine if all you want to do is surf the internet and write letters, but if you want to work with multimedia stuff like music, photographs, movies etc, you definitely want to invest in a Mac. Mac OS is much more intuitive to operate in than Windows.

I've never used a Mac. However, I will never buy another Dell ever ever ever. They are horribly unreliable and you get tech support by calling some guy in a call center in India that barely speaks English with a band phone connections. From now on, I will only purchase computers from HP.
