This is an interesting question because though we learn a lot from our victories, we tend to learn a lot more about ourselves from our defeats. But building confidence generally only happens when we are in a winning "zone". To build mental confidence one must be willing to through oneself into the throes of competition so many times that winning and losing is no longer an issue. What will become the issue and will always be the overriding point will be having good habits, technique and doing the little things right, and of course practise, practise practise. But building mental confidence will always begin with a willingness to throw oneself out there time and time again with no fear of losing or reprisal. That is the secret.

I am not sure what description you are thinking about for 'mental confidence'. Are you referring to the certainty of your logic and logic error identification. For that you may find it a help to look up the word 'logic'.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Logic

Analyze the logic in the next quote:
"Emotional feelings are neither complex nor simple in that sense for those words. Are we not a funny species; treating words as if they were the reality for which they are to represent, to symbolize, describe, logicate.... is not the life itself for this self. Love is the evolution for human mind in which it is either selected for extinction, becomes an intermittent or intervaling spiritual phenomena or, thirdly, wins the struggle through philosophical superiority and becomes ego ideal self. It is prudent at this point to suggest the failing of love in self is not shame but horror. "

Like there's no verb for 'analysis', analyze.

I forgot the most valuable logical analysis, here's the link: http://www.marxists.org/reference/archive/hegel/works/hl/hlconten.htm
