No, but it won't pass a state inspection. And will anoy the rest of us with the noise. Instead install a exhuast cut out. A Cut out is a y shaped pipe section with a butterfly valve. When open it diverts the exhaust to the side. When closed it goes throught the muffler. goto http://wwww.quicktimeperformace.com

My dad used to drag race in the 60s. He actually had an engine that would use the exhaust system on the streets but you could switch it at the track to just dump the exhaust straight out of the headers. One thing you might want to watch out for is the change in backpressure in the exhaust can potentially make the car more likely to backfire.

Modern cars with computer controlled fuel injectors often measure exhaust backpressure (among other things) to calculate how much gas to give it. If you remove the muffler, or even just shorten the tailpipe, you will change that backpressure and so the fuel mixture will likely either be too lean or too rich, in either case not good.

If you car is an older carbureted non-computerized model, then it may not hurt it, but it certainly will change the temperature situation at the exhaust valve.

No, it won't hurt the car much. May get you a ticket for noise. Then there is the safety aspect too. Alot of exhaust fumes might get inside the vehicle...Somehow.
