Stephen King is my favorite as well! 'The Eyes of the Dragon' was the first book I picked up of his, when I was 13, and I haven't been able to put his books down since! I love the Dark Tower series and how he weaves that world into many of his other stories :)

Nora Roberts- i love her romance novels! they range in a vast variety of themes. she writes about everyday life and things that could actually happen but she also takes a dive into the magical more unralistic way of storytelling. What i enjoy the most are happy endings and Nora Roberts is great at creating any topsy turvy life into the most romantic and fulfilling ending.
Mary Lynn Baxter- another one of my favorites! the way she envelopes the reader into drama and the romance of the story. The books i've read from her have a more realistic and intimate touch, detailing every incident or affair. The intimacy between the characters is excellent, how they relate to eachother and their feelings throughout the entirety of the novel are expressed at full potential.

Laurell K Hamilton. She is the best author I have read so far. She's all about action and love. Other than that, she also has a very strong female main character. :) Other then that, of course JK Rowling. Who doesn't like Harry Potter and friends?

Right now I am reading David Sedaris' book "Naked". I read another one of his books, it was hilarious. Then I listened to one on audiobooks during a long roadtrip...it was even better! I read his books then listen to them on iPod. He is a hoot...no, he's a hoot and a half! His sister Amy reads for some of the characters on the audio version. She is also hugely talented!
I highly recommend audiobooks by either one of them. Especially if you are a mature reader that doesn't take yourself or others too terribly seriously. He writes about his family and growing up with them. Whereas some of it, I hope, is exaggerated, some of it will hit home.

I love Anne McCaffrey, I LOVE the way she created her dragons to live in harmony with their riders. The fact that there is no religion to controversialise things is great(even though I do go to church) It is just something for me, no strings attached and I just lose myself in Pern(the planets name in short) The characters are down to earth, it is a new world with pitfalls and perils but for all those it is basically sweet. Then she writes the crystal singer series about a woman name Killashandra who becomes a crystal singer and is forever lulled by the call of crystal. Anne McCaffrey is a phenomenal woman.

I have a couple: Cornelia Funke, Catherine Anderson, Alexandra Ripley, and J.K. Rowling.
C.F. because she has a way of painting such a vivid picture in your mind. I've read every book of hers.
C. A. because her stories are beautiful and sweetly romantic. She shows that you don't have to be perfect to find love.
A.R because she wrote Gone with the Wind the way it should have been and
J.K.R. because she wrote Harry Potter. Need i say More!!!

Other than my own unpublished works, it would be a three way toss-up between Dean Koontz and Ann McAffery and Peter David for the contemporary award and Earnest Hemmingway for all time favorite.
I favor my own works not out of pride, but objective appreciation for the veracity of its dialogue. Dean, Ann, and Peter have all captured my imagination on several levels. Hemmingway was a great man whose brilliance is palatable in his works.

Shirley Jackson and Alice Walker. These are the authors I love. I have read everything they have written. They both offer endless plains of thought and expression. WAIT! I forgot Eudora Welty. I think you can see where I am going with this. You have to pay attention to their writing to get "it". There is no brain candy in their work.

Its a toss up between David Sedaris and Cecelia Ahern.
David Sedaris' books are laugh out loud funny. I loaned one to a guy on a plane because he had nothing to do. He was try so hard not to laugh that I laughed at him.
Cecelia Ahern's books are great realistic fiction. I've laughed and cried at her story lines. Once I start her stories, I can't seem to put the book down.

Edith Wharton. The novel "Summer" really did it for me. I can relate to the heroine, though I am a man. I was born to a lower-middle class "townie" town and truly identify with the character. It made me appreciate the mobility we have now that people didn't have 100 years ago (or 50, for that matter).
