If you don't mind the whole auction thing, Ebay is a good place to sell anything. Of course, with online selling you have to ship the stuff to whoever buys it, no matter where they are. Also, you have to sign up with pay-pal; a lot of people are uncomfortable with putting their credit card number on the net, although pay-pal is the safest and most reliable.
Half.com, a branch-off of Ebay, is without doubt the best place for books, buying or selling, in my humble opinion. Other options are Amazon Marketplace and Barnes and Noble Authorized Dealers (I don't know how to become Authorized, though).

You could post a flyer at the local supermarket saying X boxes of paperback books for $XX. Sell them by the box, so you won't have people coming and buying just one book. Get it over with.
If you don't get a response, I suggest donating them to the public library and getting a receipt for a tax deduction. You'll be helping the library and clearing out your space.
In future, you might want to borrow your reading material from the library, then you won't have accumulated books to get rid of. You'll save a lot of money too.

I always sell mine at Half-Price Books.

You could have a paperback book garage sale.

my local newspaper has free ads for items under $100. There are sometimesads for like a 100 books for $50 or whatever. If you don't want to go the auction route, you might try that...

You can always go to your local library. Sometimes they buy them or you can donate them and use it as a tax write off.

In my area, we have a place called Annie's Bookstop. They buy old books and sell them again. I'd just do a local search for used bookstore in your area.

Donate them to a local library so that others can enjoy them and use that as a tax write off. Or, same idea, but Good Will.
