More than likely you have a shortage of memory problem. Assuming you are on Windows, it has the ability to make the computer seem like it has a lot more memory than it does. Programs will run. However without enough real memory the computer is forced to go to virtual memory now and then to retrieve what it could not hold in real memory. This is called paging. Virtual memory is stored on disk.

If you have Windows XP you need a minimum of 512mg real memory. Depending on what you are running even that may not be enough.

Games are a real hog of a system. If you have anything else running, like a virus checker or firewall, there are times they need to run. That also could pause your game.

Check out how much memory you have. If you think you have enough then while your game is running look at the drive indicator light. In general, if all is well, it should be on very infrequently. If it is on all the time, you are paging memory.

Kill out some of the other programs running before you run your game. See if that helps.

when playing a video your computer needs a lot of ram memories, the problem is you have low ram memories. RAM means random access memory, you can buy ram memories to enhanced up your pc... you can also try to lower the color quality and video resolution of your computer when you watch a video.

is that fan even working? sounded like CPU overheated and throttled down its speed. Not enough to skip sound but enough to skip a group of frames within a video clip.
