on left side of the engine there should be 2 inspection holes on the flywheel housing (one large in the middle)(small one at top of cover) some you can remove with a screwdriver. center one is to turn crankshaft .. top one is to see timing marks. you may need a small flash light.. take spark plug out turn crankshaft until u see a "T" or "TDC" this means piston is at top dead center remove cover at very top to gain acess to cam the cam marks should be in 12 o-clock position.. It can be tricky you can be on "TDC" and be on compression or exaust stroke you need to time it on compression stroke..just check to make sure the valves are closed if there both closed that is compression stroke

First thing that comes to mind is the contacts on the battery are glazed. Clean them and put a protectant from an auto parts store on them before reassembling. Make sure the battery has a full change and give it another try.

The ignition timing isn't adjustable on this model. Do you mean the cam timing?
