A moderate is simply someone whose middle of the road. Their beliefs arent exceesvely liberal or conservative. They belive in moderation and avoid extrmemes. Most people in the US are moderates.

a political moderate is someone who doesn't have any principals on which to base their political views. He tends to sway with the perceived 'majority', but they don't believe in anything themselves, because, apparently, anyone in politics who has strong values is extreme.

a moderate is a person who is neither too "right" nor too "left" on the political spectrum, a centrist... often these people are independents, but other times than can be members of a political party too... joe leiberman (Dem), and John McCain (Rep) are two examples
