I myself don't play drums. I started taking guitar lessons at age 10. I'm now 17 and my heart is STILL set on doing something...ANYTHING in the music industry. My advice is get him started as early as possible. You're never too young OR too old to learn how to play an instrument. If he's into it, and his heart is set on it, let him try it.
I was HUGE into football for about 6 years, then I really got into music. My old football coach told my parents...."you never know...one minute you're traveling along, pushing them to do what they really want, the next, they stop and you have to change direction!"
One more peice of advice, don't PUSH him to do it, because, if there comes a time he wants to give up, he'll be afraid to let you down. ENCOURAGE HIM...tell him he's doing a great job, stuff like that...I know when I wanted to quit football, I thought my parents would be really upset with me because they'd been pushing me for years to play...but they weren't that upset, but I know it let them down a little bit.
I hope this was some help to you!

It's great that your nephew loves music. (and linkin park)
You can go to a local university or a drum/music shop and ask for lessons. You can start at any age you/he desires. Remember, it's music, and anyone can do it. If he's really into music, you should get him started right away

I like to think I can play.
Your nephew is definitely old enough to start taking lessons. If he really enjoys the music, start him off on an inexpensive kit to see how he takes to it.
If he enjoys it and can play for 10-15 minutes at a time, I think that would be a good indication that he'll take to it.

no no no no no no no lessonnnss. its best to start them young. have him play on just a snare or a practice pad. just have him beat on it randomly, eventually hell come up w/ something. When he starts playing recognizable stuff, let him play around w/ a set, it will teach him to play stuff hes heard like nivana and (god forbid) linkin park by ear, just have him listen to it while he plays and whatever you let him go at his own pace.
