1. My furnance currently has two 1" pleated filters in it. Is this less effecient than getting a single 2" filter. Can I just put one 1" filter in and leave a gap?

2. My air condioner has a lot of condensation and dripping water on my outside unit, typically where you will see an air condioner with low freeon freeze up. Its not frozen, but is it something to be worried about, should it be insillated?

you'd have to replace the 2" quite a bit,, the two 1" allows more dirt on the 1st and less on the second,, so you'd just need to replace the first more than the second saving you money,,also you can add a coarse and fine filter together,,, do not do away with one as you would have only half the filtering!!
your AC is just sweating from all the humidity,,

Low air flow across your cooling coil = colder air = more moisture taken from the air (and can be a cause of freeze up). Two pleated filters seems a bit odd to me, also. Furnace blowers don't perform very well with much friction in the airstream. The cooling coil (especially if you have a high efficient system) already adds a chunk of friction against the performance of the blower. A single 2" filter will offer less resistance, but may not provide the level of filtration that you now have. But, with increased concern for indoor air quality, there are many different types of filtration available. Electronic, electrostatic and any number of disposable filters - all claiming to be the best. I can't comment on which actually is. Filter efficiencies, though, are standardized and pressure drops through them are published. You should clean or replace often.

Normal installation is one 1" filter so don't know why they have two there. You ARE talking about one in front of the other, right? Not side by side? You don't get that much better filtration with two front to back. Do not, of course, leave a gap where air can bypass a filter.
As for the condensation on the outside, it will save you a few btu's and therefore a few pennie to insulate that. The system will not be harmed if it isn't, however.

You are probably restricting the air flow by having two pleated filters in your system. I bet that you will find your system will heat and cool more efficiently and you will have better air flow if you remove one of the filters.

The water you are seeing is probably on the lager of the two copper pipes going into the a/c. This is called the suction line and it is normal to see allot of condensation there. It can be insulated if the dripping is causing problems.

Filters try to keep dirt out-don't mess with that. The reason your low side is sweating all the way back to the compressor is. a;a short run from the evaporator. b it might be slightly overcharged(no big deal as long as only gas enters the compressor low side) so just insulating the wet pipe should stop the sweating but may not allow the exterior heat to finish the evaporation process(a no,no). When it was charged the guy probably just slightly over charged it by the S.O.P.I'd do nothing since some of the charge is going to leak out eventually(probably at the Schroeder valve

relies upon on the style of furnace/air conditioner. in the experience that your A/C coil and furnace are interior the attice then the clear out is interior the return duct in many situations placed interior the hallway, there could be greater beneficial than one, my house is 2000 sq. ft and that i've got 3. in the experience that your A/C/furnace is placed in a storage or room they in many situations positioned them interior the unit itself, you will could desire to do away with a panel many times categorized "clear out interior". in the experience that your A/C furnace is previous and you cant examine any labels anymore you may the two look interior the path of the handbook or style interior the style variety on the internet and discover it that way. walk around your place and look on the supply and return registers, the return registers look diverse and are in many situations larger. in case you reside interior the North i could could desire to assert the clear out would be interior the unit itself, in case you reside interior the south and your supply and return registers are on the ceiling then i could could desire to assert the clear out is possibly interior the sign in.
