Hi,
Question to landlords out there, especially those that own one or two units only. I need an objective opinion as to what you think is a reasonable action of a landlord in this case:
"While inspecting the rental property, you notice that there is the intermittent occurrence of bugs, say, spiders and crickets. They seem harmless to you". What is the reasonable action here?
a. Do you ignore it since you think these are harmless creatures
b. Do you take action to try and resolve the problem because you will be renting the property out.
Reasoning behind your answer a well, appreciated.

I am a landlord with 8 units. Here is my opinion.

I would take option b. Every place I have is in shape that I would live there myself. I do not like bugs, so I would treat for them. Why should I expect someone to live with something I wouldn't. Put yourself in their shoes.

I have been a landlord for 10 years. If you need more advice, check my profile and send me an email.

spiders and crickets say to me that there is a dampness issue. Spiders go to where other bugs are and crickets like it dark and moist.

Get it bug bombed or something. People in general do not like bugs in their unit. Even if they aren't cockroaches, they are still bugs.

B. Tenants don't like bugs. Sometimes single men care less, but most women don't like them one bit. Good Luck!
