WD-40 is an excellent degreaser too...Not really a good idea for your drive chain. It is intented as a light lubrication, rust removal and to free frozen parts. Not for protecting high pressure and power/wear points. If you don't really ride that much... one small can of some chain lubricant or as i prefer chain wax (in a spray can) will last you a long time and preserve the integrity of your chain and sprockets.

Do not use WD-40 on your chain, people mistake WD-40 for a lubricant, it will take any and all oils already on your chain off and your chain will start to get stiff and rust. On any chain you should always use a good chain lube, I suggest you purchase a good quality chain lube from your local motorcycle dealer. It may cost a little more now, but will save you a lot down the road and less headaches when you are out riding. FYI read the WD-40 can real good to see what it exactly does.

Sure you can- TO CLEAN IT! Your body weight doesn't factor into how light of a lube you can use on your chain, and WD-40 is most definitely NOT a lubricant!
You do NOT want to use a "penetrating oil" on your chain. There is grease inside every single roller, and it's all held in place by O-rings on every link. What a motorcycle chain lube does is lubricate the O-rings and keep them soft so they don't crack and let grit INSIDE the rollers.
Suck it up and get some real lube. $9 for a can of Bel-Ray or PJ-1 is a LOT cheaper than $80 for a new chain.

No, do not use WD-40 on your bike chain. It's much too light and will just sling off. If your chain is exceptionally dirty or rusty you can use it to clean the chain, but you will want to apply a commercial chain lube after cleaning the chain. Whatever amount you save by using WD-40 is not enough to cover the cost of having a chain replaced.

WD-40 was designed for water displacement (that's what WD stands for). It is a wonderful product with almost unlimited uses. Lubing a chain on a dirtbike is not recommended. You need an oil that will last longer. WD-40 does evaporate over time and is a light grade lubricant. Use a heavier oil for your chain. It will last longer. There are moving parts on the chain itself that will wear out if unlubricated.

WD=water dispersant.
It isn't a lube and your expensive chain will wear out a lot faster than if you did absolutely nothing to it. Either buy chain lube or if you want low cost use chain saw bar oil. check out your nearest Harbour Freight Tools, they have chain lube for a couple of bucks a can

If you have an o-ring sealed chain you do NOT want to use any type of penetrating oil (including WD-40). The oil will actually penetrate behind the o-ring and dissolve the grease! You can see pictures at: http://www.webbikeworld.com/t2/motorcycle-chain-lube/
Chain lube isn't expensive, chains are - why chance it?
