I assume it is a 300 series? I really wouldn't pay 13K for it...I'd actually do about 10.5 if you are really interested in owning a BMW. Make sure you check the maintenance records. Look up its value on www.kbb.com and see for yourself what you should pay. The problem I see is that you are spending more than 10K for a vehicle with over 100K miles just for a moment of economic status.

Do 3 things - First check websites like Edmunds.com and KBB.com to determine the appropriate value based on year, mileage and condition of the vehicle.
Second, get a vehicle history report from Carfax that will tell you if the car has been salvaged or had a major accident, if the Title is clear, etc.
Third, go to the premiere BMW community on the Internet, Bimmerfest.com. It is the best place for information on BMWs and before posting any questions there be sure to search and read a lot. There is a TON of info.
Good luck.

Is it a 3, 5 or 7 series? They all have 4 doors.
Is the seller a private owner? If so he/she should have complete maintenance records and the vehicle should be dealer serviced.
If it's a car dealer, you should buy a Certified PreOwned BMW from a BMW dealer.
Be careful of luxury cars at used car lots.
Finally, if you really love the car, check it out at www.carfax.com it will cost $25. but could save you thousands in repairs. It the person really wants to sell you the car, and they have nothing to hide, have them pay for it. That way, even if you don't buy the car, they can show the report to the next sucker uh, person.

german cars are very good... trust me... altough in normal driving conditions, a bmw can take u up to 500,000 miles without any problem, u have to think what happened to the car until now. maybe the ex-owner had an accident with it, and he isn't satisfied anymore about the car's performance... maybe he was a reckless driver, going with the car in holes(damaging suspension), maybe he pushed the acceleration till the motor failed, and had it repaired(not with original parts, a guess, because they are very expensive)....
there are lots of things u should think about when buying a second hand car.... and he is asking way too much on a car older than 5 years...
if u really want a german car i reccomend a NEW Skoda... take some time to visit www.skoda-auto.com...
another thing, if u really want that bmw, come with a friend or two who know something about cars, and buy it at a price lower than $12,000.
good luck

The danger of buying an "old" BMW is, that it has the potential to put you off the brand for life with their high maintenance costs. The are fantastic cars if they were well kept and maintained. If you are ignorant with regards to BMW`s, my advice is to steer clear from them, till you could afford one with a warranty/ motorplan/ maintenance plan. It seems to me that you are in the market for a budget car with a bit of image - a BMW is not the answer - go Japanese.

Take a look at this website: www.kbb.com. It will tell you how much the car is worth. Also, subtract a couple thousand from the price for car accidents. Car accidents lower the price of the car because it affects the car in the future.

You should take the BMW to a qualified mechanic to check out the car. Otherwise you could be replacing the brakes, ball joints, exhaust, etc,etc..
Try asking $8000 firm.

Peronally, I wouldn't pay that for a car that almost 9 years old and over 109K miles on it. For 13K, you could buy a brand new car that doen't have an unknown history.
