.You can not change the mass without taking something off of the bucket. However you can make it's weight buy filling it with a gas lighter than air like Helium or Hydrogen. This will replace the air a make it "float" in air (not literally, the bucket will still be too heavy but it will weigh a very little bit less.

How about helium, if it was actually possible to fill a bucket with helium
Putting a hole in it won't make it lighter unless you cut the metal out from around the hole

Without altering the bucket....heat. Heat rises, so a hotter bucket should be lighter than a cold bucket....lol
