You can't use your existing cable access while on the road however there are wireless hotspots available at many stores as well as Cellular broadband service called "3g" that offers cable modem speed wireless access.

To search for hotspots in your area:

To look for 3g wireless / cellular modem service:

Other carriers have 3g being launched or soon available.

Remember Borders, Barnes & Noble, Panera Bread, Hotels, airports, cafe's and restaurants offer 802.11 access for free. Google is even launching wifi in major metropolitan areas so most of the time you can get access by planning again

You could get one over the road, just not what you have at home; on the road and in home office the connections are totally unrelated, usually speaking of WiFi to a local connection nearby.

I would highly recommend purchasing a wireless PC card through your cell phone carrier. Verizon Wireless' coverage is pretty good so I would definitely buy one if they are your cell phone provider. However, I would double check if your laptop has the proper slot to put the PC card in before actually purchasing one (I don't know what that slot is called, sorry!).
