Let's cut the bs. Is your world so small that you can't see your fellow Americans being ignorant of holidays too? I am constantly baffled by people who push stereotypes and prejudices through their own ignorance. Every country/culture has thieves and cops, educated and uneducated, aggressors and pacifists... Every country is the same. Are you telling me that Napoleon Dynamite know or even cares what holiday he's celebrating on a long weekend?

Labour Day/Jour de Travail, how hard is that?
The tricky ones are the first Monday in August (I've usually heard it called "the August long weekend") and Victoria Day in Quebec. Quebecers don't want Victoria Day, but they sure don't want to WORK the third Monday in May, so it used to be Dollard-des-Ormeaux Day but that was offensive to First Nations People (who also didn't want to work though) so they've changed it to I think Fete des Patriotes (which is only vaguely offensive).
