Okay - first he walks across the bridge with 2 items (weight 102) and then walks back (100 lbs) and then walks back with the other item (101 lbs.) - there's got to be a catch - are you sure that's the right question?

I think he should set one item on the ground at the enterance of the bridge. Then he shold walk across set the two items he was carrying down at the other and of the bridge the walk back across pick up the first item he set down and walk across.

First he kicks or throws one of the items across to the other side of the bridge and then walks across carrying the other two. :)
