I'm looking for a good mid range sewing machine. My skills are probably intermediate level, and I would like to use it for home tasks and a few wardrobe items. My last machine had a drop in bobbin that refused to stay in and im trying to avoid that problem again. Anyone have any good brand or model recommendations?

Well, I bought myself a Brother 6000 for Christmas and I just love it. It does have a drop in bobbin but the case keeps it in. It has over 100 stitch functions plus quilting stitches, etc. It is a joy to use. If I were to buy any other kind it would probably be a Bernina. They have wonderful models with built in embroidery systems in them. Yummy!!

A couple of years ago I bought a Kenmore Model 385.16120200 at Sears. It's an inexpensive portable model and it works great. I had a fancy computer one (inherited from a relative) that drove me nuts and one of those with a bobbin that went in from the front and always fell out. I don't sew often but have made a lot of curtains, some costumes and a couple of skirts and have had no problems.

I just rencetly bought a viking. (it was on sale at the fabric store) it is the smoothest machine I have everhad. it goes over mounds of material with little effort. It has lots of decorative stitches, dropbobbin, and a free are. The extras that come with the machine are stored right in a compartment in the free arm> It has a great gurantee and lessons on how to use it and all of it features.

good luck on finding a machine.
