It increased welfare without responsibility. It increased the size of the government and taxes to "take care of the people". It made more people dependent on the system rather than on themselves. It was hoped to lock in the increased dependent populace as Democrats forever,

A little history, the great society was Lyndon Johnson's dream and was a experiment in social welfare. It didn't work as there was no responsibility attached to it. Johnson could be seen as a liberal, which is not all bad by the way. Some where in the 80's about Ronald Reagan's (a conservative) time the politics of greed took over and has been around ever since. That is the repuglican party, This blocks any social experiment with the intention of redistribution of wealth. I worked hard for mine and I do not wish to share with those less fortunate. It is a shame that one American can care so little for another American. I see this conservative movement as a failure for America.

My answer is that Liberalizm is about worshiping the state, so "Great Society" is really a euphemism for "Blessed and all powerful government".
The answer the teacher is looking for is probably something along the lines of the fact that President Franklin Roosevelt is considered the architect the Great Society and probably modern liberalism as well.
[edit]
oops, answerman is correct about it being Johnson, not Roosevelt.

It creates a larger govenment anything that might increase the size of government that is not contected to the military is seen as being liberal. Republicans have for a long time now preached for smaller government, even though in truth they do nothing about it.

Conservative Republicans own the government. They love and crave government in their lives. It is the essence of conservatism. They want to combine religion and government as one. This is their "great society". They protect corporations with deregulation, wreaking havoc, therefore on the middle class, lower taxes for the rich, raise taxes for the poor, and middle class, stab veterans in the back, destroy the Constitution, make the rest of the world hate us, and created the greatest budget deficit any country in the world has ever seen. This is their legacy. This is their"Great Society".

I think it's just the opposite, in that the Great Society built upon conservative values will be brought down by liberalism.
