3 - Sure, you get a lot of free stuff, but nothing is really free because you pay out the nose with high tax rates--and gawd help you if you or your child needs an operation.

I'm American, and I don't have first-hand experience. But I myself suffer from a particular chronic malady, and regularly communicate with a number of co-sufferers across the border to the north. I hear many horror stories about waiting lists, and being denied emergency care because some pencil pusher decides that the patient does not "need" it. Unfortunately, a few people I have heard from report that they know people who have actually perished under this arrangement.
Additionally, there has been a brain drain of quality health care professionals out of Canada into the USA for the past decade. Western Canada has been particularly hard hit. Doctors have been migrating east, and then leaving Canada altogether to come practice in the USA. They cite major problems with Canada's system (particularly at the bureaucratic level, but also including quality of care issues) as the reason for this. Draw your own conclusions from that.
A note on WHOs ratings of health care systems: The criterion used to gather its data bordered on the ridiculous in many cases.
For example, France was given a better rating than the USA, largely due to "equitable outcome probability." To illustrate, imagine ten heart attack patients in the USA, and ten heart attack patients in France. Suppose that, after treatment, three of the American patients die. Tragic, to be sure, but seven survived.
But now, suppose all TEN die in France. Under its goofy guidelines, WHO would declare that France's system is "better" because it is more "fair and eqitable." All ten of the French patients had an "equal outcome" (they all DIED), whereas three of the Americans died, and seven survived - which is deemed to be "inequitable." It's not an equal outcome, therefore unfair.
These are the kinds of absurd criterion WHO used to produce its report for all the nations it studied. It makes me think that the inmates are running the asylum, frankly...
So, as someone who does not have access to direct evidence of malfeasance on the part of the Canadian health care system, I will give it the benefit of the doubt, and submit a generous "5."
Love, Jack.
PS: It is not true that "most Americans think Bush is a complete ***wipe." At most, just under 50% do, as reflected by the results of the 2004 election. Even then, there are Democrats who do like Bush, so that would drive down further the percentage of those who think he's a "complete ***wipe." Most Republicans like him, obviously, but some in the party are a bit unsettled at the moment. That's much different than thinking he's a "complete ***wipe."

Dateline on US TV did a program on our healthcare. They used an example of a young girl (4 years old) who needed a liver transplant. She rec'd it, but 2 yrs later her body rejected it. She was given another and it took. She is now 13 and in excellent health. They asked her mother what it had cost her & her reply was " cost of Parking" when she came to the hospital. Why they were doing this was a young boy in Oregon needed the same thing, but because his parents were members of the working poor, they could not come up with the $200,000, upfront guarantee. HE DIED. Our system works on a triage basis. When I lived in Toronto and worked nights I had an occasion to go to the Hospital around 2 am with a friend. The nurse asked , what the problem was and he told her chest pains. She called an orderly to take him by wheelchair into emerg. and had him hooked up to an EKG , before even asking his name.It was an angina attack and he is fine.
Many peole abuse the system because it's free. It becomes a "Cry Wolf" situation. They have the regular hypocondriacs & yes , after their 6th visit with the same complaint, they have to wait. There is a problem with things like Hip replacements because of a shortage of doctors. In general though , if I have a child that needs heart surgery, I would rather have our system. I rate our system at 8-9.
I just read what "Patriot" had to say. To be honest I'm not familiar with the Mental Hosp. situation. He , I think is an authority there. I also would like to know what Prov. he lives in. I live in Nova Scotia now, but spent some time in Ontario.

The medications are highly dangerous,

The pharmaceutical lobby is overwhelmingky present,
Now medications cost more than all doctors....
In fact the whole medecine science have to make a turn, and accept cures like High Frequency Healing. All anti-depressant, and especially the benzodiazepans have to be bannished. The whole system is to rethink....
The procedures, and the foundation of the whole phychiatrist association have been made by Dr. Cameron, a obscure scientist who conducted the Mind control experiments on Montreal childrens. The Childrens of Duplessis. It was CIA experiments of mind control techniques, on kid who had been rapped before the age of 6.
And the whole pshychiatrist system have been made by this men.....
Our whole system is in critic condition. Were been poisioned more eveydays...Fluoride in water lower IQ of drinkers, and cause Attention Deficit Disorder, and Health Canada Approve it. Like all benzos..

10 I am not Canadian however have traveled and talked to Canadians on many occasions. When ask would they trade health care plans with the U.S. I got not only no but several hell no's. Understand it is not free it comes with a pretty high tax. But our health system cost are extremely high and we do not get anymore for it. If you take the insurance company's profit out of this would health care not be cheaper. They make to big a profit from peoples misery's.

4 Canadians who need good medical treatment come South to the USA rather than wait for a year or so. You are also wrong about what "most" Americans think outside of your limited vulgar group.
