Yes they do and religion is nothing more than hype.
Both so called Christian's and also the Muslims believe what ever the leaders of their countries say.
The need of people to have a belief in someone with more brains than themselves.
The concept that is one god the Creator.
It as been hijacked first by church leaders and then by governments.
How the hell can you stop them (governments & churchleaders) if you choise to believe in them.
I would suggest that there is no hope for us to find peace.

I am English bit have lived in the US for years.
I think the majority of Americans are far less inquistive about their government than the average Brit.
In Britain we expect proof of something before we believe it, in America if our leaders (in government or church) say it then it must be the truth (why would they lie?).
America is a very insular country where little news outside our city is reported. The cable chanels (CNN, CNBC and Fox) have wider coverage but until 9/11 it was still mainly focused on US news only, although this has now broadened to cover some world events they are still covered in an insular way. EG when the terrorists were arrested in London it was all about how it affected the US not how it impacted the UK or the world.
These stations are also biased, some right wing, some left, and they always offer news with an opinion. Because they do this, whichever chanel you watch will tell you how you should feel, this leads the emotions and viewpoints of the listener to either a right or left wing viewpoint.
UK news (mainly BBC) will report the facts of the news and generaly leave the viewer to decide how they should feel on an issue, that allows us to make up our own views rather than have them formulated for us.
People have common sense in the US, unfortunately they are led to a preformed opinion they may or may not have formulated on their own because of how the story is spun to them.
I love America and Americans, on the whole they only have the best intentions at heart for themsleves and their country. A lot of them have woken up to the fact that they were (and still are being) lied to by their goventment, but there is still a big part of the country that needs to catch up.

I think its time to give so-called "conspiracy theorists" a chance, they dont call it conspiracies, they insist it is the truth.Well with there being two sides to every story and Bush and Blair talking out of ther bum holes I think the alternative news agencies have some serious evidence that is not only convincing but is pretty much the truth. From the bias policies regarding the Arab-Israeli conflct to the American arming of African Militias and Colombian drug gangs to the motives behind the de-humanization of Islam,The Gulf "invasions", Kidnapping and Murders of left wing poitical leaders of the 60s, Leniancy and encouragement towards/of immorality in our society,..If we dont act,WE'll never get a chance. We put the government to GOVERN the people, not to CONTROL them! And yes it is true, most Americans are gullable, but thats the result of their education system.America wants them to learn about good old freeing the world, defeating evil America. How hypocritical! REVELOUTION ANYONE ???

Nah we do not believe all the rubbish dished out by the Govt! We are the intelligent ones of course! No just like you said; like the Brits, Americans do not believe the Govt and whatever the Govt says! By the way all Govts. over-hype themselves to continuous victories....
My Sources: The current ratings for the Govt! ( absolute pits )
----------------------------------
I also agree with Millsy about the news reporting..... almost all the news even what they tout as world news is in connection with US they do not come out with real World News Reporting. For News I still find BBC great it has variety and covers the world North East West South the way reporting should be done.

I believe nothing that comes out of his mouth. George W and Tony are two of the same. When, he comes on TV , I turn the TV. His approval rating is like 37% now. It's bad when you get to 50%, but it really bad when you are below 50%. So, no we are not falling for the hype. His Wild-West Cowboy "going to smoke it out and hunt them down " antics made the post 9/11 situation worst. I think he put the target on our backs. Every time a terrorist attack occurs he jumps on TV waving his first and beating his chest like his had something to do with preventing it here. Get a clue, they are terrorist ! No matter how many idle threats, how much democracy you spread or how many foreign troops you train, It's not going to to stop them. His big-shot, hot-headed demeanor has made it worst for Americans globally! Other American voted for him to represent us and I don't like the way I am being portrayed. I'm am so over it.
If you making your assumptions by the media, they are not a good measure of the American population. The republican party feeds the media, they digest it and then regurgitate it.
So, to answer the question, NO we are not falling for the hype. We are Bush refugee waiting for just waiting for relief in '08.

I think we Brits are more cynical.
Americans are brought up with all that "We are the Greatest Country on Gods Earth" stuff and the terror of being considered "un-American" so they are more likely to defend their government and President (and what he stands for) even if he is full of crap.
Brits tend to have a more "yeah right pull the other one Tony" attitude

We hear, but don't listen. Can't believe anyone who has lived in Washington DC for more than two terms. After a while, they loose their handle on reality and go off on tangents.
Oh, to return to Our Original Forefathers who drafted our Constitution! If we could shred/burn/bury all of the lousy laws and legislations over the past 225 years! Start from Ground Zero!
We were forewarned by them to NOT allow Lawyers to write the laws - they were so right - see the quagmire that we are in now? I thumb my nose at them; I bite my thumb, and anything else show my anger and disgust at how things have become.

No, we don't believe everything. I remember Nixon. It is crucial to read the papers and not watch network TV though (except c-span, pbs, BBC news). It won't be long now. Bush will be gone in a few years. The question is, where do we go from here? Also, remember, America won't always be the super power it is now. Who will be the next super power? Hard to imagine huh? China perhaps? I think Britain and us will stand together for a long time. Perhaps in a darker future?

no common sense here
i don't always agree with bush but he is who we have and ill stand behind him just like i did for Clinton
who lied in court to get out of a rape charge and if you recall he was impeached but not removed
he couldn't run for president again if they changed the 2 term thing as he is not a felon
and he did pay off Paula Jones to not take him back to court and the judge did fine him
oh back to your question i read and study the issues both sides and do what i think is rite for the country
try to find my next question it may help you
it will be on we need more democrats
