He pointed out some of the obvious flaws that the Catholic church was doing, since he was educated and could read the Bible and could compare to what the Catholic church believed. He was the right man in the right place at the right time. All of the other priests of the time were too afraid to do what Luther did.
The really troubling part is that anyone is Catholic anymore, since the Bible has been translated into most of the languages of Christians, and the problems with the Catholic church are self-evident from it's teachings.
And about Marry, the mother of Jesus, she was loved by Jesus, but she was not enlightened in the least bit. She had no idea what was going on with Jesus, and may not have even understood in her lifetime.

He was the one who showed the Medivel Catholic chruch's supporters how greedy and corrupt the Catholic church had become. He also showed how evil the pope was. The high church members took the money the poor believers gave them and spent it on themsleves and building new grand elegant churchs, instead of feeding the poor and hungry. I beleive he straightened out the Catholic Church. He also translated the bible into other langauges so everyone and not just preistes could read it. He proved to everyone the chruch members did NOT have the power to rid people of their sins, by paying them money to do so. Only true believers and those with faith would be accepted into Heaven. He made the Catholic and Christan religions what they are today. Summary: He is the one was showed us what religion and believing really is. Thats what he did for the world.

He saved Christianity from becoming a complete bureaucracy that was more considered with making money and getting people to support the Church than they were with teaching about Christ and saving people's souls. Even Catholicism, which Martin Luther deviated from in the first place, has accepted most of his teachings. His biggest argument was against tithing to save one's soul. He taught faith alone could save. Wikipedia would help if you need more.

Made more people confused about the Catholic Church. He broke away because he was sad ... didn't like some of the sacrements and certainly didn't like anyone paying deserved homage to Mary, the Mother Of Christ.
