2000 chevy express. when engine is off, lightswill work. when engine is on (key turned on position) lights that are supposed to be brake lights go out and only top lamp is on.tried changing bulbs and fuses. no trailor hitch connected

check for recall on the rear bulb holders. The plastic bases and wires on the bulbs have to come in contact with metal spring strips that melt away just look into the bulb holders after you spray them out with brake cleaner and call to see if the Van is covered under one of the many bulb out warranty extensions.

If all fuses are intact, Multi function switch is the cause...or turn signal switch as it used to be called.

There are no campaigns/recalls that apply to that year van for rear light, circuit board or light bulb issues. Not even a special policy...I just looked.

check drl module,also boo switch (brakelight switch) drl is daytime running lights-also note that the brake light circuit should be hot key on or key off-hope u find a little better direction from info.may be a short,see if any fuses are blown.otherwise have qualified person look at it for you
