Your baby could be just fine but prenatal vitamins provide essential nutrients that your baby might not get because most of us don't eat all the things we are suppose to in order to have perfect nutritional balance. I wouldn't take the risk of your baby not getting proper nutrition if you are able to get the vitamins.

I think prenatals are very overrated. They are given out to every woman, regardless of nutritional habits, to insure that the woman is getting the nutrients she needs for herself and her baby. However, many woman eat all the right foods and prenatal vitamins are pointless. Also, the kind the doctor gives out are loaded with preservatives that actually inhibit the absorption of the actual vitamins. So, women are popping these horse pills for no real reason.

I was also advised to take Flintstone's chewables if I couldn't handle regular prenatals. Please do not go that route. Most grocery store brands of children's vitmains are a scam. They are loaded with all kinds of ingredients that inhibit the absorption of the vitamins. It is like eating candy and you are gaining no benefit from taking them. It kills me how the doctors will push those things.

The thing is, the doctors are not nutritionists. They know very little and I think it is ridiciulous that they treat us as if we are all the same. We're not. Some women may need to take a vitamin. I don't. I make sure I eat a well rounded diet. I eats lots of fruits and vegetables and I make sure to get plenty of folic acid--which isn't difficult to do because it is added to many cereals and is found in whole fruit juices.

If you think you want to take a vitamin then I would suggest you seek out a whole foods store or do a search online and find a vitamin that is all natural and does not contain any preservatives. But if you are eating a variety of foods then you should be just fine.

One of the most important nutrients you get from prenatal vitamins is Folate (folic acid). A deficiency in folate can cause serious neural tube defects in the baby. Other vitamin deficiencies can contribute to lots of other problems in the baby and with the pregnancy. Also, you yourself won't feel too hot!
When I was pregnant, I could never swallow the big prenatal vitamins, so I got a prescription for chewable prenatal vitamins. However, the iron in them made me sick to my stomach. Eventually, I just paid very close attention to what I ate and made sure I was getting plenty of everything. There are actually a lot of breakfast cereals out there that have tons of vitamins and minerals (a personal favorite of mine was cap'n crunch). I also looked at the labels of my vitamins and found that taking 1 1/2-2 children's chewable vitamins gave me what the prenatal vitamins had.

Well if you take care of yourself and eat healthy, don't smoke or drink or do drugs, and stay away from people who do, you should be okay. But there could be other health risks that have nothing to do with good habits and eating healthy. The only way to detect them and deal with them is thru prenatal care. You need to see a doctor to be sure you and baby are healthy and on track. Ultrasounds are very important! And taking the prenatal vits. Babies will drain you and they take your calcium from your bones and teeth if you don't get enough daily for both of you. Best choice is always see your doctor regularly during pregnancy.

Well on the news they did a report on women who did not take prenatal vitamins or did not get the nutrients they needed from other sources, and with most of the mothers their babies came out to have spine problems and a cleft lip or cleft palate. With both of my children there were many days in a row when I forgot to take the pills but I usually ate other food that had the nutrients I needed. Either way talk to your doctor.

You might become deficient in vitamins and minerals. The baby will deplete your body of essential vitamins and minerals, which are replaced by prenatal vitamins. If you are having difficulty taking the pills, you might want to talk to your doctor and see if a healthy and wholesome diet will work instead of prenatal vitamins.
Hope this helps!

Prenatal Vitamins are important because you and your baby need the extra nutrients you don't always get from the food you eat like the folic acid that's super important for your baby...

Sometimes nothing, but lots of times the baby is born with a low immune system and could have problems when she/he is born or later in life. You should take the vitamins because it helps your baby by giving it the nutrients it needs while growing inside of you. If you stopped taking them because they make you sick, been there, then tell your doctor. He/she will give you others to try. Good luck Hun.

Prenatal vitamin is to add extra vitamin on you for your "extra needed pregancy". But, if you eat right and healthy, it won't be a big problem.

It is so important for your baby's development to have all of the essential nutrients that we commonly do not get from our diet. We do not eat properly a lot of the time (even for our own well-being). If you don't take them, your unborn baby might not have all of the advantages he/she would have had. Why wouldn't you take them? Unless they jeopardized your health in some way, you would be selfish not to take them.
