The measure of the supplement of an angle is 60 less than three times the measure of the complement of the angle. Find the measure of the angle.
*** supplement= 180 degrees
***complement= 90 degrees
Also please explain the best you can...I have to show work!! Thanks!!!

im gona express the missing angle as X so

X+Y=180 (y the the supplement to X)
X+Z=90 (Z is the complement angle to X)

now in the question it says that the supplement angle (Y) is 60 less then 3 times the complement angle (Z) therefore

Y=3Z-60

Now that you have these equations you can solve for X
there is a couple of way to slove it from here the way im gona do it is plug the value of Y (from 3rd euqtion) into the first one
so now you have
X+(3Z-60)=180 and
X+Z=90
so now solve the second eqution for X (by subtracting Z from both sides)
X=90-z
and now plug the new value of X into the first equation
(90-Z)+(3Z-60)=180 now add the Z's and the number on left
2Z+30=180
subtract 30 from both sides
2Z=150 divide by 2
Z=75
now we know Z+X=90 (complement angle)
so you solve for X
X=90-Z
X=90-75
and final answer is
X=15

lets say the angle is x
supplement = 180 -x
compliment = 90 - x

now use the first line
supplement = 3 times (compliment) - 60
180 - X = 3(90 - X) - 60
solve the equation for x
180 - x = 270 - 3X - 60
3x-x=270 -60 -180
2x = 30
x = 15

180 - x = 3(90 - x) - 60
180 - x = 270 - 3x - 60
180 - x = -3x + 210
2x = 30
x = 15°
