There is no "correct" amount... But, to be safe...? Just carry as much as you can afford to have stolen...

There is no correct amount to carry in your wallet. Just whatever makes you feel comfortable. Or whatever you think you may need for an emergency.'

It depends on what you are doing and where you are.
If you are at home, going to work, what do you need cash for? Lunch, some gasoline or bus money. Maybe something for a beer after work. If you're a girl you don't have to take cash for that
If you are traveling away from home, you might need considerably more.
Or you can use credit or debit cards and about $20 bucks for Small items you might need.

If you carry a credit card, you do not need a great deal on your person. Probably less than $50.00. If you do not carry a credit card, it is wise to carry considerably more--$200-$300. You never know when you might come across a bargain you want to grab.

It depends on your circumstances. I always carry between $20 and $50 for things that are inconvenient to use plastic on (like taxi's).

20.00 in NYC is the perfect amount it will buy you lunch or a CD, a cool belt, or anything from a street vender. It will also appease a mugger if you get mugged and you don't lose out on that much.

None carry a cedit card. Then you have as much as you need. Cash seems to not be helpful!
