spark advance retard turned off Base ingnition timing is to the deep notch on the pointer to the white line you paint into the slot of the crank pulley. To be sure take the left front spark plug out and turning slowly turn that piston to the top feel it go down and turn back now paint dot the pulley at the (0) degree mark and note if the crank slot is any where near. If the harmonic balancer rubber is worn out the outside ring of metal may have shifted to advanced side and when you time the engine to the old mark it is to fast or pings.
