I live in california and work as a manager but I have decided to step down and be a regular employee.. they told me that if i step down i have to go back to regular pay, even though i am not salary but paid hourly. Does anyone know if this is legal in california?

Yes, this is legal. You are demoting yourself. If they were placing you somewhere else, you would get the same rate of pay as you are currently paid.

Yes, I think so. But your raise should not be a good reason to stay as a manager if you can't handle the pressure at job.
