I went to day to get a copy of my marriage certificate and to my surprise the lady told me that they have no record of the marriage i ask her how could this be because i got married on march 31 2001 so she searched again and got the same results so she told me the pastor that married us did not submitt the documents to have it registered. does this means im not leagally married ?

I had the copy that they give you after the wedding but it was missplaced and even that one i remembered when i went to open a bank account in my married name i couldnt do it because the pastor didnt sign it and i had to take it back to him for it to be sign. but the other thing is my husband and i are not together anymore and i was going on monday to file for a divorce and that was one of the documents i need

In common law terms, you are legally separated. It is up to your attorney as to how you want to proceed, how much you think you can get in the settlement, determine if you have grounds to seek full custody of the children, etc...

if you went to the county where you were married, then yeah, you aren't legally married if the county does not have the paperwork. Did you EVER have a copy of your marriage license? You would have had to have one to get your name changed, so see if you can find that, or go see your pastor ASAP.

in the state of Pennsylvania you have to get a license first which you pay a small fee for ,then you get a blood test wait two weeks for the certificate to show up..then you get married ...I never heard of a pastor submitting documents to legalizing a marriage...what state are you from ?

it could be some kind of error in there office but if the pastor did not file the paper work then you are not legally married what documents did you use when you changed your last name.

When you changed your SS# and your drivers licenses you would have had to have proof of change. Look in your wedding album for the license or the church records where you got married. The court house in the county you were married in should have a record on it.

What state are you in? I was reseaching a different question the other day and it said the point of witnesses was that they can swear that they saw the marriage took place, along with the officient, in case the marriage certificate goes missing.

You need a lawyer. You have a serious problem. call thr person who married you you may have a lawsuit to file against whoever married you or their could be some mix up at the cort office. do you have video of the wedding, thats your prooff i am an ordained minister if you want me to marry you all again.just emil me

It could mean that to the state but you should just check with the pastor and use your copy of the license to get it right then you will b e.

Not necessarily; but you should probably get in touch with the pastor (the church should have records on file) and get those paper filed. You might even want to contact a laywer...

No, it means you need to get a hold of the pastor and tell him to file them. You got the license and you got married. He needs to get the papers filed.
