Hi. I dunno if a guy can give a woman any real help with stuff like this. But I feel I had to give it a whirl. I am 50+ and had pretty bad pimples till I was about 35. I've worked in trade type jobs as roofy and in an office environment as manager. I've found unless you do have 'real' acne (and many things described by the media today as acne are NOT real acne: it just sells more product) that overall it comes down to two things, your overall lifestyle (genearl health and well being, stess levels, etc) and diet (not only what you eat, but when, how, etc). This might sound dumb, but if you feel good you look good. Same goes for your frame of mind, oils and acids on your skin, how you 'glow'. So now I watch everything I eat and drink, I shower straight after I've been in a pool (otherwise my scalp still breaks out) and not a little later, I exercise regularly and often and I try (even though it is difficult sometimes) to keep work interesting and not a daily stress attack. And believe me none of it is a chore, I dont even think about it unless people pass some comment. It seems to have worked but it did take time, though even now if I get a bit too sweaty, or worry too much or dont sleep right I will break out. Like I said, I dunno, but it might help.

Visiting a dermatologist is probably the best answer if it is truly bad. Our son had acne pretty severely, tried all sorts of skin topics and Proactive, nothing was working. Finally had to use this super, duper, anti-bacterial drug prescribed by the dermatologist as a last resort. I cannot recall the name of it, but he had to take a pill everyday for a few months and wallah no more acne. Had some side effects too. I remember his joints ached alot, had dried, cracked lips but he will be the first to tell you it was well worth it. Very expensive drug btw, hope you have medical insurance with a prescription plan. I'm thinking we figured it up to be about $20 a pill!
Just like the Visacommercials..... Pill-expensive, his self-esteem-priceless

Have you ever taken birth control pills and then stopped?
When I was a teenager, I never had a problem with acne but when I was thirty and had my second child, I went on the pill for one year. They didn't agree with me, I started feeling depressed and if someone looked at me crooked, I would cry. I went off the pill and within a month I was back to my normal happy self, except for my skin. I started having a huge problem with acne. I was so embarrassed that I didn't want to go swimming or show my shoulders or chest and my jaw was covered with acne. I endure the embarrassment for 3 years and then I heard about acutane. I asked the doctor for it and within 3 months it was cleared up but now I have white spots were the lesions were.
Just recently I was reading an article and I now believe it was the birth control that caused the problem.
Whatever is causing your problem ask your doctor about acutane and good luck with it.
By the way, it is a fallacy that food, chocolate or pop causes acne. And excessive defoliating can also exacerbate the problem.

I'm right there with you - 35 and still have acne. I finally found something that works for me - tea tree oil. I wash my face with tea tree wash that I get from Trader Joe's, then use cotton to rub on pure tea tree oil, and then moisturize with emo oil, jojoba oil, or olive oil. Using the all natural products seem to have done the trick. My skin cleared up in about 2 weeks, and I've been told I 'glow'. I also started drinking organic apple cider vinegar, and that's supposed to help your skin too.
Oh yeah, and make sure to use a new washclothe everyday if you use one on your face, and to change your pillowcases as often as you can. Keep your hands off your face and never pop existing pimples.

my mom is 49 and still has acne. In the winter is it not as bad but still there but in the summer when it is hot and she sweats it is awful. Much worse than I ever had in high school.
Have you tried proactive? Also if you "scrub" your face you could actually be doint harm by scrubbing away the good oils. It has more to do with hormones than it does what you eat and drink. Ask your dr if he can perscribe something.

Jan Marini Skin Research Benzoyl Peroxide Wash and Ance medication are great...they are a little more expensive than stuff you find at a local pharmacy, but well worth it...I've tried lots of things, including ProActive, but Jan Marini works the best for me

Ask a dermatologist if you have rosacea. It's a type of acne but the treatment is completely different and unfortunately, it doesn't usually go away with age, but it can be controlled. I have it and I find Face Doctor soap with seabuckthorn oil helpful.

Everyone gets pimples at different ages. Some people get them in high school, and some people get them long after. I'd talk to your dermatologist to see if there is anything that you can do with over the counter products or if there's something he/she can prescribe.

I had to go to my doctor for acne He prescribed me an antibiotic at age 29 .That cleared it right up.I had cystic acne ,a bacterial infection and i am now 33.In some cases only a doctor can help.I am sorry but in my opinion i disagree with accutane i have tried it and had alot of side affects and a year later it came back but everyone is different.Be careful with what you use read all side effects.

Join the rest of the world. Some more than others, but it will never be 100% solved. Don't over do the treatment, it causes irritation itself. Keep a REGULAR regimen, dont do "knee jerk" response.
