I have a beautiful Royal Purple smoke tree in my yard. It has a rock and slate path that constantly grows weeds next to it. I bought some weed killer a sprayed it on the path to get rid of the weeds but now all of the foliage on that side of the tree is dieing! It was a spectacularly dumb move on my part....is there something I can do to fix it?? Is my poor tree doomed??

Your tree is not doomed but it is suffering. Most weed killer works by removing all the moisture from plants. Watering is rather critical at this point however you do not wish to drown it. Instead over water it once and wait for the soil to dry out again before repeating. The idea is to help rinse the remaining poison further into the water table. Second is to replenish the trees natural requirements. You will need a very stable fertalizer. I strongly recommend SuperThrive. follow the instructions carefully. If you use to much you will burn your plant and insure its death. Second, go to your local plant nursery and tell them what happened. they will offer solutions to your problem and are your best ally in this.

I was a worker at a plant nursery for a few years and learned a tip or two. I hope it helps,

Not too good. Try watering the tree like crazy for a few weeks. Spray down the leaves on that side a lot if they're not totally brown yet. If they're totally brown, trim them off.

Water the path especially. Try to wash that poison off away from the tree, or at least dillute it until it won't do much to the tree. Keep watering until you have a river there.

It takes a great deal of work: dig the area up, remove the toxic soil then flush it with cool water for a few hours. But, before taking that drastic measure watch over the next few days to see if the wilting spreads beyond the present area.

hold on, what did you spray? if you sprayed round up, you will probably loose some foliage and maybe a branch or two if the smoke bush is healthy, make sure it is watered you don't want to add stress to the plant.
now if you sprayed something like brush be gone or a 24d then you may have a bit of a problem. MY best advice is to contact your county extension agent (free if you pay taxes) and ask him / her. remember to tell them what it is that you sprayed.

Don't panic! If the tree is big enough it's only going to be stressed. It'll come back.

PS. Buy a weed whacker.
