And as you read the content of the question, they truly are? Are people just that blind and naive?
Common now, if you already know that what you say will offend others, more than likely it is a racist comment.

Or perhaps you should ask yourself why is it that society is so completely conditioned with ideas of complete equality that ANY comment towards another race or ethnic group is considered racist and therefore the words of evil or some sh|t like that. People are too scared to verbalize their ideas! I know for example that I am loosing work as a waiter and need to find a new career because most of my original jobs are now taken my foreign workers that work for like one 8th of my wage. I know this for a fact but dare I say it I am labeled as a racist. And real racism still very much exists but is now suppressed and spreads in whispers and is only amplified by built anger at not being able to say anything about any foreigner and as such people who would not have been racist find them selves having racist thoughts. Perhaps all the time we victimize people for their ideas be they good or bad we will always have division in society. And all the time we emphases racism we are advertising it, instead of trying to convince us that we are bad if we dislike people of a different race stop talking about it and let people remember we are all human! and not force an opinion!

I agree. Any statement that begins with "I'm not a racist but" would be better not to say at all.

Ok, so take the example of the person who said "I"m not racist but more black people are in jail". So what's that supposed to mean, that black people are born with a crime gene? Simplistic statements that ignore all the social and historical factors that have oppressed minorities only hurt people more, so what's the point of saying them.

They know they are racist. They feel so strongly that they must comment and hope it'll slide by by saying that little disclaimer... "I'm not racist but...I don't mean to be racist, but..."

But is quite a large word here. Sadly, many people judge others. It's even more sad that they judge others based on race.

Because racism is taboo, and many observations that are based on simple facts can appear racist, or easily be spun that way. For example, I'm not racist, but I understand the rate of incarceration for blacks is double what it is for whites. That means blacks are commiting more crimes. Simple fact and not based on prejudice.

Well they think they can get away with it, They try making the question sound innocent but most of the time they fail. They're still in denial that they're racist.

People don't want to admit that they are racist....I think that no matter what anyone says, every person is racist in one way or another.

I think they want to ask a question unique to a culture because they are curious about it and they are afraid that people will interpret the curiousity as racism.

If you are human, you are racist. To deny it is to show ignorance of how the human mind works.

What you do (or write) with it is something completely different....

Too bloody right!!!

I think they know it, or at least have heard they're being racist before, it's just that they're trying to fool somebody. Probably themselves.

"I want to insult somebody, but please don't insult me back!" *sigh*
