IDo movies really desensitize your surrounds and your environment.?
I can see where seeing the same horror movies over and over would make it seem less scary the next time you have a get together with friends that haven't seen the movie before.

How much are we desensitized?

Does it make the scary thoughts less when we see something on TV news that is disturbing?

Does it make us become number to violence?
Kids, (not mine), play video games of hunting other people or Grand Theft, not that these games don't offer a thrill adventure ride for the playing,
BUT >>>> What age should kids be allowed to see it all?

movies may desensitize us. it's a sadder thing how LIFE has desensitized us to violence, hatred and hunger by exposing us to it on a nightly basis on the news. i can't even stand to listen to another report about starving african kids, dead brothers in lebanon or iraq, or senseless murders of young children on america's streets. i almost expect it...

(de-SENS'-i-tyz)- to make indifferent, or unawarein feeling. to lessen the sensitivity of or to.

movies or reality can deaden our response to a stimulus. if we see it enough, we will cease to respond to it. violence, hatred, fear... we can lessen their effectiveness on us by constantly exposure. like a medical remedy with a weakened version (but not fatal) of a virus to help us combat it, by showing strongly emotional behaviors over and over we can become conditioned to lose sensitivity to, and perhaps eventually ignore, it. i feel the answer to your question is 'yes'.

how young is too young for violent games? if it troubles kids to the point they're copying, admiring, or idolizing the bad behaviors, the games should stop. if kids think these behaviors accurately reflect the kind of reality they eventually want to live, the lives they want to lead, the games should stop. even explaining the difference between fantasy and reality might not be sufficient in some cases. and if the parents are upset enough by this kind of violence, the games should stop. you know your kids best, no one is better suited to lay down the limits!

Yes, I do believe that movies desensitize us. We've seen it all, violence, sex, horror, so people start to think that it's normal or okay to be so destructive. Society is losing it's moral values. Kids shouldn't be allowed to see any of it, but unfortunately, they do.
