me again. DO NOT put your books in the freezer...that is a moist cold and will harm your book. Also from 6th grade science class for those of you who don't already know....freezing cold does not kill bacteria it only disables their ability to reproduce. Sunlight and high heat have an antibacterial effect but again,it must be a dry heat or the book will warp.

Putting them outside in the heat won't necessarily kill anything and neither will putting them in the freezer. Microwaving them isn't really a good idea either since I'm not really sure what that would do the microwave or the books...my suggestion would be some form of antibacterial spray. The spray should do all the dirty work for you without being moist enough to harm the books...a nice light coating should do the trick. You can also buy certian brands that also kill viruses...which, lets be honest, in most cases are worse than any bacteria could be.

Its all moisture dependent.

Dry air will not grow much of anything.
Damp air will grow everything you can imagine and then some.

Sunlight adds the factors of heat and UV radiation. A certain amount of heat helps grow stuff. UV in general kill stuff.

So, to maximally sanitize (without chemicals or artificial heat sources), expose the book to sunlight, in cool (cold) dry air.

However to really do the job properly, you have to allow the air to get to all the pages. This will tend to wrinkle them though.

I'm not sure.. How expensive are the books? You could use a chemical sanitizer but it might damage/discolour paper. Also Bacteria dies and lower tempeture than paper burns. You could bake them but once again it yellow the pages or scorch the covers.

It depends...most bacteria prefer the dark. Presuming you are trying to sanitize bacteria only, there are a few conditions that are favorable for bacterial growth i.e. humidity (or moisture), heat (approx. 20 to 60 is favorable), a food source (sometime moisture is enough), etc.

If you are trying to clean you books...well that depends on where it was or what is/was on them. That's a difficult to answer as I don't know the specifics.

Good luck!

I not sure I remember this correct. Maybe someone else has heard of this. I think you can Microwave them. The Public Library may be able to help call them.

Bacteria grows faster in warm climate, but not hotter climates. Its the cool nights that brings more growth.
