Punk is not Good Charlotte, Green Day, Blink 182, or Sum 41.
It really bothers me that a certain few think this type of music punk, when it's really just pretty much the Backstreet Boys with guitars. Real punk died in the 80's. Real punk bands such as The Germs, Black Flag, Sex Pistols, The Ramones, The Talking Heads, Dead Kennedys... etc. were punk rock. I'm sure someone out there agrees with me.

I have to agree with you 100%. You also left out The Cramps, The Misfits, and The Clash!

I agree with you...

I seperate modern so-called punk into four categories, though:

The Adicts- They've been around since the seventies, and they deserve their own category, cause they kick a**.

Post-punk- If the group doesn't seem (to me) to be trying to fit into the punk stereotype, but get labeled as punk by listeners anyway... If they maybe have some political views which they didn't fabricate in order to appear cool... If they seem to know and respect real, old school punk... They aren't punk, and they don't pretend to be, but they have punk influences basically.

Pop crap- For all the stuff I absolutely detest. For instance any group with more than one song about feeling like an outcast (I don't need to hear complaining about nothing)... Any group with a large number of "my boyfriend/girlfriend left me and I'm sad now" songs (I don't give a s***)... Basically anything really mainstream... Good Charlotte... Panic! At the Disco (How the hell did anyone even think to call them punk?)... Stuff like that.

Avril Lavigne- Needs no explanation. Blegh.

For some reason though, everyone at my school is suddenly into the Clash, which is cool, cause they rock... but very weird.

Green Day and Blink 182 cut their teeth playing the same clubs often times on the same bill as some of the punk rock greats like Social Distortion, Bad Religion and the likes. I choose to cut some slack to a lot of the modern punk bands if the have paid their dues. Don't hate on someone just because they achieved some commercial success. I choose to look at it as though the rest of the world figured out that I was right all along.

I think those bands actually are punk, but they aren't the greatest thing since sliced bread like all these teenage fangirls think. They are way better bands than Good Charlotte, Green Day, etc. I agree, real punk died in the 80's. I like postpunk better than punk anyway, though. Postpunk bands were usually all female and they sounded way better than these douchebags today, wearing girls' pants and eyeliner.

punk rock is a genre that deals with having songs (lyrics) about real things happening in the world. like Anti-Flag is punk rock and Rise Against.

They don't know what punk is because it is not in style anymore.
It was not in style for very long in fact.
People are usually only interested in what is new and hip and they quicky forget what came before. I am sure there are a lot of other people out there who like what you do. Don't worry about what the rest of us like.
