First, get a lawyer. If you just can't, or won't, here's what you do:
1. The complaint is answered by an "answer". Copy the header (court info, title of the case, case number, etc.; everything above the word "complaint"). Where he/she wrote "complaint", you write "answer"
2. There should be several numbered paragraphs. You have to answer each one. You have three choices; admit, deny, and "I have insuffiicient information to admit or deny". For each numbered paragraph in the complaint, follow with a numbered paragraph in your answer, either admitting or denying.
3. After this, there should be what's called a "prayer", asking the court for something (divorce, child support, whatever). In your answer, you ask the court that he/she take nothing by way of his/her complaint.
4. Where they/their attorney signed, put your signature (notarized). You'll give the original to the court and mail a copy to the opposing attorney. You'll need to add a block stating when you mailed your answer, to whom, and their address. Sign this too.
Most states have "notice pleading", where you don't have to be expert. You just have to put the other party on notice that you're interested.
From that point on, they have to notify you of all hearings, motions, etc. If you don't answer, they can get the divorce by default. You don't have to be notified further at all.

If you have a lot of assests to divide you are better off hiring an attorney. If not, you can go to your local library and ask where the law section is. Tell them what you want and they will show you the books that have all the forms and detailed instruction on virtually every aspect of law. You will save a lot of money and learn a lot in the long run. It really isn't hard if you can read and follow instructions. All the forms can be copied and the books instruct you every step of the way. Sorry to hear your marriage is ending.

get a felony specialist is my suggestion. typically in michigan a felony specialist might want to record a default, 21 days after service i think. all it skill for particular is that the divorce is a reality--even with the undeniable fact that the dep. of resources and custody and baby and spousal help are all nevertheless undetermined subject matters. i heard that in california in the journey that your opponent ignores the courtroom the courtroom will basically take your be conscious for what number resources you've. i do not comprehend. even in michigan i do not fairly comprehend. in my divorces the warring parties were cutting-edge. besides you likely want a felony specialist. if a felony specialist can get you an more desirable $one hundred a month for one or 2 years would not that mean the felony specialist paid for his own bill? attorneys in divorces are significant, if basically to carry your hand through the approach and inform you what to anticipate. of direction some attorneys are more desirable helpful than others. seem for one you get alongside with and believe, and be straightforward with him/her.

Most divorce filings are numbered by each subject and you have to respond to each numbered item
Example:
1. no
2. yes/with support
ETC.
If you're not sure, contact a lawyer pronto because the court system does not respond well to delayed actions.

remeber these three words: GET A LAWYER. don't rush into anything because "you just want it to be over." don't agree to anything before your lawyer signs off on it.
