It's a pretty nice city...
Very affordable....you can get a "nice" house for a lot less $$$$$$ than in other cities this size...
A lot of colleges and universities
Most of the people are pretty friendly...very "neighborly"
it has a fairly diverse population..but "the Hill" --has been mainly Italian for about 100 yrs...so....there are plenty of great Italian restaurants around
The art museum is very good, as well as the "Arch" and its history museum
It has a metro population of about 2 mil...or pretty close to that.
so....most of the amenities of a large city...but in most neighborhoods....a "small " town feel...nice friendly people
It's tough for me to tell you what there is to do....I don't know your age....but.....[remember, no ocean and no mountains] there are plenty of outdoors activities close by as well as neighborhood/city things to do
The city has a world class zoo--Free
a lot of parks in and around the area
6-Flags is 30 min from downtown
There are 5 casinos nearby
There are fairly large lakes for boating and fishing within a 2 hour drive and the Mississippi and Missouri rivers meet at St. Louis
Hope this helps

I live in a small town in the middle of nowhere in Michigan, but I work out of St. Louis (I'm a Flight Attendant).. I love St. Louis.. I have found the people there to be very friendly and much like back home except black and white people tend to mingle together more so you don't see so much racial divide.
They have good neighborhoods and bad neighborhoods like everywhere else. They also have the most spectacular thunderstorms you ever want to see from a plane! Watching a thunderstorm with the Arch in the background is an awesome site.
They have a large stadium downtown and everyone is in to sports. You can drive across the bridge and be in Illinois for shopping or dinner. Great place! I think you'll like it.

Well I don't know where your from, but if your from Florida like me you will absolutely hate it. It is extremely humid in the summer with no air circulating. You have to drive about 1 1/2 or more to go to a lake or river to swim or canoe. The winters are very cold and it snows some times. You can't do any winter sports because they don't get enough snow. They just get enough to make the roads dangerous and cause everyone headaches.
As far as things to do there are major concerts that come here, bars, dave & busters, the zoo, casinos, and of course Cardinals and Rams games. Basically nothing to do if your broke.
There is a very good selection of chain stores and restaurants.
Almost everyone who lives here has lived here all of their life. There is not a lot of diversity. You are either black or white. The black population is mostly lower class. There is a bunch of old run down buildings every where.
It is not the best place for jobs because there is not a lot of new industry coming here. I served our country and have a hard time getting a good job even though I am highly qualified. Scott Air Force Base in Illinois is located only 20 miles away and is a major factor in St. Louis's economy however, few respect the military.
People who have lived here all of their lives and don't know better think it is the greatest. For a major city it is not really that large or booming.
Traffic most of the time is horrible. When they do road construction they don't just do it on one major road they do it on all of the majors roads at the same time! People drive too slow most of the time. There are no toll or back roads to avoid the traffic.
Crime in certain areas is terrible because the city doesn't care about it's image or attracting tourist.
Others have commented on the low cost of living. Actually it is just average and most of the homes for sale are about 50 years old and if you have to spend about $200,000 to get a nice brand new house. This is high considering the availability of good jobs in this area. In addition one neighborhood block will have nice homes and be a good neigborhood BUT, you go a block or two over and it is a bad run down neighborhood. Therefore the city does not plan it's growth very well.
Sorry to sound so negative, but anyone who has lived some where better won't have much good to say about St. Louis.

Depends on where in St. Louis. If you move to a place in the Brentwood, Clayton, Richmond Heights school districts -it's really nice.
I love St. Louis. TONS of great places to eat. Lots of family owned places. Lots of FREE stuff to do. We have major sports teams and even a few minor league teams. There is always something going on. Just grab a Get Out Magizine or Riverfront Times Magazine.
If you move you need to visit the Hill for italian food, and ted drewes for custard. The zoo, the art museum, the history museum, the city museum, the dog museum......lots of fun stuff

St. Louis is all right, some nice areas and some bad. Not as busy as say, NYC or Atlanta, but it's ok. They have Six Flags!
