squats alone done perfectly for the rest of your life wont gain your vertical 10 inches...maybe 5 but you need to do a lot of other things as well to get the most out of your vert.

not really. try step jumping. try using blocks of abour 15" hi and a block abour 30" hi and jump up and down with out running. Jumping hi, is do to a fast and strong movement of your muscle not a strong and slow movement.

I don't know, but some people have messed up their knees doing squats. If your knees start to bother you, cut it out before you do permanent damage.

yes but make sure you are parallel. if not the squat wont do nothing. also tuck jumps may help to. bleachers are the best.

Helps but not by that much.
Do it in moderation with other forms of training. Too much is bad for your knees.
